CALL FOR ADEQUATE TIME MANAGEMENT ON NIGERIAN CAMPUS

NEED FOR WELL-REGULATED TIMING ON CAMPUS
By Olympus Ade-Banjo

"Time is what a man has to start his vision with when he has nothing else"
I like to talk about individual and national cumulative development but the essence of time is most pivotal in all physical consideration with regards to Success.
I remember before Campus, my friends and I had lots of prospects to life, gifts we wanted to explore but then something changed, we gained admission and the dreams early turned from 'getting good grades' to 'not failing' and finally  'getting outta here'.
The present campus culture of lack of order and accurate time management is one of those factors that undermines the potential, productivity and survival of students. My childhood friend, Lekan, who schooled in Cyprus told me "when class is scheduled 10am -12noon on the timetable, you can plan your day accordingly because it cannot be changed or extended without due process by the school management". No wonder he was able to sustain himself there with part-time job, acquired other skills in line with his field and finished best graduating student in his faculty.
This is not the case here in Nigeria where students are thrown between the option of 'Productivity and Self-sustenance'  as one and 'certificate' as the other when other countries across the world by the reason of due process deliver all these as one package in the campus experience. Here, students have to wait for lectures that won't hold as if there is no timetable wasting away the time they could have spent working per-time or expose themselves to more skills and knowledge in the pursuit of their dreams. The agony of dream slaughter the nigerian youths face on Campus where dreams, aspirations and gifts that could make majority job creators, when they have corresponding quality education to support it, suffer Stenosis for the 2-6 years of campus experience. Any wonder 75,000 Nigerians travel abroad  annually for educational purposes out of which even Ghana accounts for over 10,000.
I hereby call for an urgent attention of the Ministry Of Education, State governments, NUC, ASUU, NBTE, NGOs and other relevant bodies to these national menace as it is a fundamental cause to a lot of other national problems like Rate of crime and unemployment. Government must inert policies that would demand accountability from tertiary institution management and lecturers because the future of this country is presently at stake.
Finally, I urge all nigerian students not to give up on their dreams, aspirations and gifts as well as their academics which is supposed to support their dreams in life and not drop their dreams for what should support it. They must peacefully demand their rights to consistent time regulation from school management and academic staff.
